08 Limbs of Yoga (Ashtanga Yoga)

Yamas: “Habits not to be adopted to maintain purity within.”
Niyamas: “Habits to be adopted and practiced to develop purity within.”
Asanas: “Steady and Comfortable posture for Pranayama & Dhyana.”
Pranayama: “Control over the mind i.e., thought process.”
Pratyahara: “Withdrawal over senses.”
Dharana: “Reducing thoughts and focusing on one single thought.”
Dhyana: “Single pointedness on any Spiritual object.”
Samadhi: “State of Liberation, Moksha.”

Karma means ‘action one performs’. Yoga means ‘union with the source of creation’. When one surrenders actions to the source or when one does the actions as source being do’er, it becomes Karma Yoga.

Activities as part of karma yoga includes –

Cleaning the practice floor / Watering the plants / Setting up the arrangements for raja yoga class & So on.

Sravanam: “Listening to the stories of Lord’s lila.”
Kirtanam: “Singing of God’s glories.”
Smaranam: “Remembrance of his name and presence in mental attitude and unceasing prayer.”
Padasevanam: “Service at Lord’s feet.”
Archanam: “Worship of God through such rituals as puja.”
Vandanam: “Prostration to the Lord with full awareness of His presence in all names and forms.”
Dasyam: “Cultivation of feeling of being a servant of God.”
Sakhyam: “Cultivation of feeling friendship toward the Lord.”
Atmanivedanam: “Complete surrender of self.”
